Position: Low Strings Teaching Artist
Site: Carver Elementary, 6160 Jefferson Ave, Newport News, VA
Status: Part-time (salaried)
Pay: Starting at $6,500 (yearly step raises); private lesson opportunities available
Schedule: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday — 3:45 PM – 6:15 PM (Sept–May)
Start: September
Reports to: Carver Program Manager

Position summary
Teach Level 2–4 cello and string bass students (beginner → intermediate/advanced). You will model high musicianship, teach technique and ensemble skills, prepare repertoire and performances, and build strong relationships with students and families. The Low Strings Teaching Artist will bring both musical excellence and a deep commitment to the growth of young people. This role is ideal for a musician who thrives in a collaborative, community-centered environment and sees teaching as a way to inspire confidence, curiosity, and connection in students. This role requires collaboration with teaching artists, participation in professional learning, and occasional evenings/weekends for performances or events.
