We are looking for a dynamic individual to join our team as an Assistant Site Director at our K-6 West Valley 1 campus. Sistema Utah is partnered with American Preparatory Academy to offer music classes after school at Title I schools. Patterned after the El Sistema movement that originated in Venezuela, it is our hope to empower our students for social change.

As the Assistant Site Director, you would be responsible for engaging with students in a learning environment, establishing a positive rapport with students and their parents and preparing materials and supplies.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Continually interface with students, volunteers, staff and parents.
  • Ability to lead and supervise small and large groups.
  • Recognize potential issues and applying problem-solving methods as needed.
  • Ability to observe student behavior and assist in the appropriate behavior management techniques.
  • Accurately complete incident reports, attendance, receipts and other program-related materials.
  • Identify student and staff needs and communicate them to Sistema Site Director.
  • Help students with homework when applicable.
  • Help foster a positive learning and working environment.
  • Substitute teacher for classes after school such as: group instrument, general music, singing and homework.

The hours would be M, T, F 10:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and W, Th 9:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. with benefits.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • College music degree and Suzuki Method teacher training is a plus, but not required.
  • Ability to speak and write Standard English appropriate in a public school setting.
  • Must pass criminal background check and fingerprinting.
  • At least six months experience working with youth in a classroom, after school or recreation environment.
  • Math and English skills (K-12).
  • Excellent communication skills.
