The Youth Development Artist will teach private and small-group string lessons, support orchestra rehearsals, mentor students, engage with with families, assist with concerts and events, and help strengthen MYO's life-skills-centered curriculum. We are looking for someone who is passionate about youth development, culturally responsive teaching, student mentorship, and creating a positive, encouraging learning environmet for young musicians and their families. 

Responsibilities include:

  • teach weekly private and small group lessons for violin, viola, cello as well as Saturday morning beginner class
  • lead sectional rehearsals and help with chamber ensemble when available
  • Support orchestra rehearsals across MYO ensembles
  • Prepare students for, attend and assist with the planning of concerts, recitals, auditions, juries, and event logistics
  • Differentiate instruction to meet varying learning styles, ages, and ability levels, 
  • Develop thoughtful lesson plans and instructional materials and coach other YoDAs in lesson planning 
  • Foster strong fundamentals while encouraging musical creativity and expression
  • Teach a wide range of musical styles including classical, contemporary, jazz, popular, and culturally diverse repertoire
  • Help develop and edit curriculum and lesson plan materials across all levels annually 
  • Attend professional development sessions and lead various topics in teacher meetings
  • Collaborate closely with faculty, administrators, and artistic leadership
  • Attend and lead faculty meetings, trainings, orientations and fundraisers
  • Maintain accurate attendance, lesson notes, and student progress records
  • Support recruitment and retention initiatives
  • Other duties as assigned
